SUSAN G. KOMEN FLORIDA ANNOUNCES DEBORAH HAUSMAN 

AS MORE THAN PINK WALK ORLANDO CHAIR

Susan G. Komen Florida, Florida’s first responders to breast cancer, is excited to host the 1st annual MORE THAN PINK Walk TM Orlando. Deborah Hausman, the daughter, granddaughter, and niece of three breast cancer survivors, will serve as chair of this event.

Introduced to breast cancer at the age of 10 when her 40-year-old mother had both her breasts removed within six months, Hausman remembers her mother saying that if God allowed her to live long enough to raise her three children, she would dedicate her spare time helping others with the disease. “My mother kept that promise for over 30 years counseling patients, advocating, and working with lawmakers to force insurance companies to pay for mammograms,” says Hausman whose mom is still healthy at age 90.

Hausman, the former owner of Quailhurst Stable and Vineyard in Sherwood, Oregon has been bringing horses to Orlando and Wellington, both in Florida, during the winter season for many years and became a fulltime resident since 2015. “In 2012 one of my fellow equestrians developed breast cancer. Following her mastectomy and recovery, she asked if I had any desire to participate in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day in San Diego. That was the beginning of the realization that this organization clearly had a focused goal that someday I hoped to have the opportunity to support in a larger way,” she says.

Just in time for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Deborah is our special guest speaker for the Maitland Chamber of Commerce Wednesday Women’s lunch on September 25th.
